If you have been in the marketing game for a while, then you SHOULD know that anyplace is a good place to advertise website free and promote website free of charge. One of the most popular places has been these social bookmarking type sites. First off as said above you can do it for free – as much as you want, for as long as you want, for whatever product you want. Heck you could even advertise stuff on these sites that you wouldn’t normally do on other sites.
Second off there are SO many various social marketing sites out there – and since they are free, you could literally join up with a handful of them and market your site five-fold! So how is this done? Do they have bulletins like Myspace? Classifieds? Bookmarking? Well these sites aren’t going to have bulletins per se, but they are going to have “social bookmarks”. Social bookmarking is a method for Cyberspace users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of meta-data, typically in the form of tags that collectively and/or collaboratively become a folksonomy.
Folksonomy is also called social tagging. Now you can either find sites that have do follow or no follow. But you really want to try to look for sites that are do-follow. Why? The do-follow options allows Google to “pick up” and track the links or “backlinks”placed on the page. I know, it sounds confusing at first. Google and the other engines are constantly scanning websites and pages on the Internet looking for information. Ya know how when you do a search on Google and all those results come up on the first page?
Those are called SERPs or Search Engine Results Pages. The first page is considered the cream of the crop so to speak. It’s the page that EVERYONE sees at first glance and it IS the best place to be. You can get there several ways. Article marketing to increase SERPs, work on your page rank, place your site URL on do-follow sites and you can even do a piggy back which will allow you to get a better PR just by putting your URL ON an actual site with a good PR.
For instance, if you have a PR of 1/10 (10 is the highest) and you write out content on a site that has 8/10 such as Wikipedia then your URL can piggy back off of Wiki and you could in turn get pushed up a notch or two. The Social Bookmarking is a good option because it’s free, it’s quick and it’s easy as could be. All you have to do is pick a category, submit a new “story”, add your URL, URL title, category, tags (keywords), description of site, images (optional) and that’s it.
You submit it, they okay it and voila your site URL ends up on that site. Once Google comes around and scans the page it will pick your URL up and “file” it. Its super simple. Anyone can do this. All you need is an Internet connection which you have, a computer, and a website!
