Restaurant Review: Gyros Gyros
You ever wake up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat, and
the only thing that can comfort you is meat that’s been rotating
vertically against a heat lamp, wrapped in lavash bread with an array
of mediterranean vegetables? Really? Every night? Same here. Too bad
this place isn’t open 24 hours, but when I have a hankering for an
inexpensive meal to go, I go to a place on University Ave. in Palo
Alto called Gyros Gyros (Google Local).
Baklava! Rizogola! Mousaka! I’ve never tried any of these items on
the menu. I’ve only ever bought a lamb&beef gyro, chicken gyro, and
hummus plate. The chicken gyro (.95) is my favorite. The chicken is
tender and juicy and complements the other ingredients nicely. The
lamb&beef gyro (pictured, .95) is pretty good too; however, I feel
its a little too heavy, the meat a little dry. The hummus plate
(pictured, .95) comes with a greek salad and pita bread and makes a
nice side dish, but a gyro by itself is more than enough to fill you up.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is casual, and the place is fairly
small and crowded. Not too crowded though – I’ve never not gotten a
seat when I wanted one and the wait for food is usually around 5
I finished my meal an hour ago and I feel like I’m gonna die. It’s
that good. It makes you die.
